The Scarlett Diaries

Scarlett Johansson is back! I know, I know: it's been a long time since the most beautiful woman on Earth has graced your favorite blog with her presence. The reason for today's visit is that The Nanny Diaries opens in April, and I am sure going to go see it.
TND is based on the book of the same name by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus, a best-selling novel which I read a couple of years ago. The book tells the story of a college student that babysits as a part time job, and how she starts working for this rich family that pretty much treats her like crap… or worse. The book is hilarious, and you find yourself feeling for Nanny and wishing her employers dead. You laugh while you read all she goes through, but, at the same time, you're horrified you're laughing, because it's so sad. And so real. You know there are people like that out there, both rich people that behave like animals, and struggling young people that will tolerate all kinds of vexation just because they have nowhere else to go. It is funny, bittersweet, and a fast read, and you could do worse than reading it. But you could do better: go see the movie, and you get the story plus Scarlett Johansson! Who could ask for more?
