Rockin'

Rokkin is a six-issue limited series by Andy Hartwell and Nick Bradshaw. Hartwell got his start in the industry when his buddy J. Scott Campbell asked him to develop a project with him. Said project was known as Danger Girl, and I still think it's one of the best comic books ever made. Later, Hartwell teamed up with Bradshaw for the Army of Darkness series, and later for the Danger Girl: Back in Black miniseries. I guess they liked working together, because, right after those projects, they created Rokkin.
Rokkin tells the story of Arness (hmmm… ARmy of darkNESS, maybe?), a guy whose village is ravaged and his wife murdered. Arness himself is enslaved, until the gods intervene and free him to set things right. From there, and after meeting a fierce -and hot- warrior named Evy, Arness must kick butt and take down the bad guy.
While the story is not exactly original, it is very entertaining and well told, and Bradshaw's cartoony artwork -both dynamic and baroque at the same time- is a treat for the eyes: here's a guy that actually deserves whatever money he is paid to illustrate. So if you're in for playful banter, cool sword fights, and cartoony violence, Rokkin is what you were looking for.
