A friend of mine kept insisting I had to watch Zorro: the Gay Blade on DVD, and so he got the movie from Netflix and had me over for dinner and some dubious entertainment. I was worried, since he's the one who has treated me to some bizarre films such as The Ice Pirates, Yellowbeard, or Bubba Ho-Tep, to name just three, but he's also been right on a couple of occasions (Equilibrium is one that comes to mind). But what do you know, this movie turned out to be quite funny.The premise behind Zorro: the Gay Blade, is quite absurd. Diego de la Vega (George Hamilton) inherits the mantle of Zorro, but he sprains his ankle on his second outing and has to resort to his twin brother (also played by Hamilton) to become Zorro. The thing is that his brother is a British sailor who happens to be gay, and boy does that show in his choice of costumes. I'll tell you once thing: this is the Zorro outfit like you've never seen it before.
Other than that, the movie is your basic Zorro movie: swordfights, an evil mayor, a cute damsel in more or less distress, and the trouble that always comes with double-identity stories. Plus a lot of silliness, funny one liners, and tons of puns and plays on words that come from Zorro's terrible accent when he speaks in English (which is pretty much all the time).
So, if you're in the mood for an old comedy (the movie came out in 1981) and cheesy acting, check out this film. George Hamilton is really funny, and the faces he makes had me rolling on the floor with laughter. Maybe you'll enjoy it too.

Pues, puedes... comprarte el DVD. Así a lo tonto se me ha ocurrido, ya ves.
Va, que una película semejante no puede costar más de 2 dólares con cincuenta.
Según me dijo mi amigo Mike (el que la alquiló), la peli sólo se puede encontrar en Netflix para alquilar. Supongo que podría mirar en Amazon y ver qué dicen...

En fin, lo curiosos es que la película sea de principios de los ochenta. La verdad es que mnientras leía tu crítica la imaginaba más actual (por su temática en sí pues... también).
¿Verdad que sí? Una pionera es lo que fue.
Cuando dije usada me refería a que la puedes comprar a través de Amazon, pero no en Amazon. Ya sabes, ese apartado que dice "new & used".
Ya, bueno. Yo preguntaba porque, bueno, sabiendo cómo es la película... vamos, que se puede usar tanto para hacer el bien como para hacer el mal. ;)
