That is what the cover of Witchblade #116 says, and I guess it’s true. For one, this is the first issue of Stjepan Sejic’s regular run. The artist has done other Witchblade issues before, but this is the first one of his steady run that will last, at least, until issue 150. Ron Marz, the writer, is also committed until then, and since his stories have been fantastic so far, this is truly the beginning of a new era.
The story in ish 116 introduces a couple of mysteries, a new villain, and recovers Sara’s long lost sister Julie. Will she figure more prominently in the series from now on? I would like that. And who is this David guy and why does he give me the creeps? Maybe because he reminds me of Kenneth Irons.
The writing is good, the story interesting, and the conversation between Sara and Julie is priceless. Also, Marz uses that scene to recap everything that’s happened before, from the origin of the Witchblade until Sara’s current status, so this issue is the perfect starting point for any new fans who might be interested in giving the series a try. And after drooling all over Sejic’s amazing artwork, that is a very distinct possibility. So go ahead and start reading Witchblade right now. I guarantee you won’t regret it!
