My wife and I went to see Don't Be Afraid of the Dark last weekend, and while we liked it, we both agreed it wasn't great. We liked the disquieting atmosphere, the damp cellar, and the strange events going on in the house. The acting was good, and so were the special effects, but the story, while interesting and correctly developed, didn't move me all that much. If I had to highlight two things about this Guillermo del Toro production, I would point out the really cool credits at the beginning of the film, and the story of how director Troy Nixey got the gig. Apparently, he spent several years completing an amateur film, and when he was done, he submitted it to his idol, Guillermo del Toro, hoping he would critique it. Instead, the famous director called him and offered him to direct DBAOTD. Isn't that a wonderful story? I definitely found it more riveting than the movie itself.

Mala cosa que destaques dos cosas que no tienen nada que ver con la película en si. Bueno, lo de los créditos sí tiene que ver, pero no deja de ser un aspecto muy terciario.
No he visto la película, pero estoy por apostar a que yo también me habría quedado principalmente con la historia de cómo Troy Nixey llegó a ser su director. Buen cuento de hadas moderno, jeje.
Pues con los actores y la participacion de Del Toro deberia haber salido algo bastante bueno.
Sí que es un cuento de hadas moderno, Hal. Y Nash, no digo que la peli no sea buena, sino que no es excepcional. Buenos actores, buena dirección, una historia bastante interesante, buena ambientación... Todo correcto y competente; y aún así...
Anda que no he salido veces con esa sensación del cine. Hay películas que son tan entretenidas como olvidables.
No quiero decir que sean comparables en calidad, pero creo que me he tragado Eraser tres veces, las dos últimas porque no recordaba haberla visto antes.
Hahahaha! Sé que he visto Eraser, pero no podría decirte absolutamente nada sobre la película. Tan entretenida, pues, como olvidable. Gran frase :)
