Weird but Fun

It's been ten years since Being John Malkovich was released, and even though I had always been interested in the movie, I had never actively pursued watching it until now. The movie, directed by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman (no wonder it's so strange) stars John Cusack, Catherine Keener, a barely recognizable Cameron Diaz, and, of course, John Malkovich, and it is a lot of fun to watch. The basic premise of the movie is that Cusack finds a portal that lets you be John Malkovich for fifteen minutes, and even though he dreams up a scheme to make money out of this almost immediately, things take a turn for the worse quite quickly.

I think my favorite thing in the movie was the character interaction, their relationship, and what they do to one another and why. Women in cages, twosomes that are unexpected threesomes and sometimes even unlikely foursomes, a marriage in trouble, really short people, and the hilarious metaphysical conundrum of what happens when somebody tries to get inside his own mind will keep you guessing from the get go until the movie is over. So, if you're up for an offbeat adventure that is both fantastical and absolutely real at the same time, try Being John Malkovich for an hour and a half. At least, it won't cost you two hundred dollars.
