I had already told you about Hack/Slash here on Sunny Jhanna. I mentioned how I was getting some of the 48-page issues (compiled here), and how cool it was to have a story that actually started and finished in the same book. This one-shot approach was good to avoid the industry's most common disease: a monthly book that is so not monthly that, by the time you got the new issue, you had already forgotten what the previous issue was all about. Besides, Hack/Slash was just plain fun: an interesting story, and good artwork (except on that Evil Ernie abomination that even I could have drawn better).I think I also told you about my trying to get the original artwork for a Hack/Slash cover by creator Tim Seeley. Seeley strikes me as a cool guy, and I actually ended up getting that fantastic picture (go me!). Now I wish I had the comic book, so I could display it next to the framed original I have here on my wall. Oh, well…
And now that the property has been picked by Rogue Pictures to become a movie, Hack/Slash has gone monthly! I just read the first issue, and I really, really enjoyed it. Without spoiling anything, we get some backstory that explains who Cassie Hack is, where she comes from, and why she does what she does (which happens to be finding slashers and slashing them herself). And we get to see how she met Vlad!
The story, written by creator Tim Seeley, is dark and satisfying (in an "I like it when your toes come off" sort of way), and the pretty pictures, courtesy of Emily Stone, are good too. Actually, her style reminds me a little of my beloved Nick Bradshaw, with good body language, varied facial expressions, dynamism, and an overall cartoony feeling that is nice without being too obvious or exaggerated.
To sum it up, Hack/Slash is a fun romp (it's always been), and it looks like the ongoing series has the potential to become solid entertainment. So go and get it now!

Desde hace bastante tiempo tus posts sobre comics eran bastante pesimistas. Difícil se me hace recordar una crítica positiva tuya a un cómic americano (si exceptuamos The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born). Me alegro de ver que vuelves a disfrutar con la palabra ilustrada.
Parece que Hack/Slash tiene muy buena pinta. Me lo anoto en mi libreta de "Para cuando tenga dinero".
Tim Seeley, por cierto, ¿tiene algún problema con la ropa interior de la protagonista? Porque parece un caso un poco obsesivo. Que no es que yo me queje, ojo. ¿Cómo podría?

Me alegro de que te guste el título del post, Hal. Se ve que tu link a la lista de títulos de VM me debió inspirar, o algo.
Hack/Slash es divertida, aunque algunas historias, evidentemente, son mejores que otras. En general, es recomendable, aunque tampoco es la mejor serie que se publica en la actualidad. Supongo que hay dos razones para que mi post sea, en general, muy positivo. Una, que como bien dices, últimamente las series me están decepcionando (excepto, como bien dices también, The Gunslinger Born y Witchblade, que no sé cómo has podido olvidar con la matraca que doy al respecto -y daré en pocos días). Y dos, que en la última página del número, Seeley dice que le mandará algo a cualquiera que promocione la serie, con lo que tampoco iba a a decir que es una basura -que NO lo es, además-. Así que he escrito el post, le he mandado el link al colega, y me consta que lo ha leído y al parecer aprobado, porque ya me ha mandado un correíllo pidiéndome mi dirección. Y yo, sufrido que soy, se la he dado alegremente.
En lo que a la ropa interior de Cassie se refiere, no hay más que visitar la página de Seeley y mirar su arte original: al tío le molan las nenitas con poca ropa. Algo, por cierto, a lo que yo tampoco objeto, desde luego.
La página original me costó más de lo que hubieras pagado por ella, de eso no te quepa duda. Pero aun así -y vistos los precios que por ahí corren-, fue muy razonable para tratarse de:
(a) Una portada.
(b) Una portada alternativa de las que pocas se imprimieron.
(c) Con la protagonista de la serie a cuerpo completo (más ropa interior de bonus, hahaha).
(d) A lápiz (sin tinta).
Además, no sobrepasé mi límite impuesto de "no pienso pagar más de XXX por una ilustración original". Si tienes curiosidad, ya te lo diré por correo ;)
Pues sí, no sé como he podido olvidarme de Witchblade. Y no, tranquilo, no soy tan cotilla como para tener que saber lo que pagaste por la página original.
Aunque sí espero que nos digas lo que te manda el Seeley, si es que finalmente lo hace.
No temas, que si al final me manda algo, me faltará tiempo para contároslo :)
