Blown Away
What a phenomenal book The Time Traveler's Wife turned out to be. This novel, written by first time author Audrey Niffenegger, tells the love story of Henry and Clare, but it's not a conventional love story. As you might have by now surmised from the title, Henry is a time traveler, but that's not as much fun as you would think. He time travels alright, but he has no control over when this happens, where or when he is going, and how long he is staying. It's kind of like the hiccups: treacherous and inconvenient. Most of his visits are to his wife at different points in her life when she still doesn't know him (well, now she does, right?), and some other times he visits himself and hangs out with himself. But I won't say anything else, because, as usual, I don't want to spoil anything for you. Just know that this book is a terrific read, and that, even though it's still February, I already know I'm going to read few books better than this one this year. A highly original concept, compelling characters, an interesting plot, time traveling, and wonderfully crafted prose make this book one of the most satisfying reads I've experienced lately. So go read it, and thank me later.
